On the world podium with 7 medals at the World Cheese Awards 2025

25/11/2025RS_Roberto

Caseificio Antonio Garau has received another shower of medals at the prestigious World Cheese Awards 2025. Seven cheeses from the Mandas-based company made it to the podium: the Cardureu and Su Nuraxi pecorino cheeses won gold at the world’s most prestigious competition, held at the Neue Festhalle in Bern, Switzerland.

Once again, a panel of experts recognized and awarded gold to Su Cardureu, which had already won the Super Gold award in 2024. The same goes for Su Nuraxi, which already received a star at the Great Taste 2025.

Silver went to the Marina Blu blue cheese, a new product created in 2025 by Caseificio Garau and immediately awarded; Colline di Mandas, already awarded at the International Cheese & Diary Awards 2025; and Su Crabittu goat cheese, already a gold medalist at the World Cheese Awards 2024. Bronze went to Duca Nero truffle pecorino cheese, which had already won a silver medal at the International Cheese & Diary Awards 2025; and to the award-winning Piccolo Giunco pecorino cheese, which recently won recognition at the Italian Cheese Awards as the best cheese in Italy in the fresh cheese category.

The jury evaluated 5,244 cheeses from 46 countries. “Our pecorino and goat cheeses mature in our precious, natural cellars: solid stone and centuries-old planks, with an ideal microclimate. No preservatives or chemicals, not even in the crust,” emphasizes Marina Garau, who, together with her brother Mimmo, is the fourth generation in a company founded in 1880 by their great-grandfather Antonio, the oldest operating dairy in Sardinia, listed among Italy’s historic companies.

The company once again raises the profile of Mandas and Sardinia with another prestigious recognition, a testament to the quality and craftsmanship it has demonstrated for over 140 years. “2025, with its symbolic ending “25,” has given us twenty-five extraordinary awards: our cheeses have achieved twenty-four world podiums and another prestigious national podium,” conclude the Garau brothers.
